Yes, the majority of us! Us Americans love our vehicles. Did you know that over 90% of households in the US own a car?! The Automotive industry is one of the largest and fastest moving industries in America. It’s the country’s largest manufacturing sector. In 2022, almost 9 million cars were built in the U.S. Almost 2.9 million ‘new’ cars were sold last year, and just over 36 million ‘used’ cars were sold. I was one of those, some might say ‘foolish’ Americans who bought a ‘brand new car’ in 2022, despite its way over priced price tag….

The very first American-made gas powered car was sold in 1896. It was built only 3 years earlier by Charles Duryea and J. Frank who were bicycle mechanics at the time. Literally hundreds of companies entered the market during the next 10 years, but it was Henry Ford who took the market by storm with his Model N in 1906. In 1913, Ford was the 1st to introduce the assembly line and was able to produced more than three quarters of the world’s motor vehicles that year! The Dodge Brothers, Chrysler Corporation, GM and Chevrolet followed. But after the Great Depression and World War II, many car companies closed their doors, leaving the ‘Big Three’: Chrysler, Ford and General Motors who produced the majority of American cars.
